WHAT IS POWER YOGA?

This yoga class is for those who are looking for a challenge for their bodies and their minds. This class is taught in the Vinyasa style but done at a quicker pace and in a heated room. Despite it being a challenging class, it will still be taught in a way that is accessible for those who are looking to expand their practice.  


A powerful yoga class focused on building physical strength and core conditioning. Each session incorporates standing and balancing poses, sun salutations, and backbends, giving you a practice to build on each week.

 

This is a 75 min heated class and great for those who would like to take their yoga practice to the next level.  

How it helps the body:

  • It builds strength and endurance and improves posture, flexibility, and motor control by challenging your muscles and joints.
  • It keeps your heart healthy and provides a cardio workout by increasing your heart rate.
  • It reduces stress and boosts mental focus by decreasing cortisol levels and releasing toxins through sweat.
  • It enhances your overall health and well-being by connecting you to your physical body and promoting an active lifestyle.

try power yoga if:

  • If you’re comfortable in an intense fitness class environment (think CrossFit), power yoga may be a good fit for you.
  • If you have a decent level of fitness and are accustomed to working out for 60 minutes or longer. It may also be a good choice.
  • You're looking to improve muscle strength and cardiovascular endurance. The poses are challenging, and you move from one pose to the next quickly.
  • It provides a good physical workout and, unlike some other styles of yoga that follow the same series of poses each time, power yoga classes are seldom alike.

POWER YOGA

Class Description:

Power yoga incorporates the athleticism of Ashtanga, including lots of vinyasas (series of poses done in sequence) but gives each teacher the flexibility to teach any poses in any order, making every class different. With its emphasis on strength and flexibility.

Intensity: Medium - High


Level Of Fitness Required:

Before you take the plunge, keep in mind that power yoga is hard work. Clear instructions are given during classes, including breathing techniques and alignment in poses. Different variations may be given for certain poses so that everyone can work to their own ability and comfort level.

What To Bring To Class:

  • A yoga mat (bring your own or hire one at the studio)
  • A water bottle (not essential but handy if you get thirsty)
  • Appropriate yoga clothes (something you can sweat and stretch in).

Our Power Yoga classes are conducted in our heated studio practice spaces.

Studio access is available from 15 minutes prior to the start of each scheduled class.


Other Yogas To Consider

26 & 2

This series follows 26 beginner hatha postures and two breathing exercises taught in a heated room - so be prepared to sweat! The series targets all-around stability and helps strengthen thighs, glutes, and back muscles, and tones the biceps and triceps muscles.

VINYASA

Vinyasa yoga allows for a lot of variety but will almost always include sun salutations. Expect to move from pose to pose.

Whether the class is fast or slow, will depend on the individual teacher and the particular style in which they are trained. Some classes include warm-up stretches, while others launch straight into poses..

CORE

Core yoga poses are a great way to build strength and stability in your core muscles, which can help improve your balance and overall yoga practice. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned yogi, incorporating these poses into your regular routine can help you take your practice to the next level.
